How to Keep Erections Strong as You Age

Manage your expectations – Changes in bodies and hormone levels can erectile function as you age. It’s important to embrace the aging process and avoid unrealistic goals and expectations.

Live a healthy lifestyle – Eating a healthy diet, regular exercise, and avoiding drugs and alcohol play a huge part in keeping your erections - and your body - in good shape.

Check for underlying conditions - Heart problems, high blood pressure, excess body weight and chronic disease can affect your erections, so it’s important to identify the root cause.

Reduce stress and anxiety – Chronic stress can cause erectile dysfunction and anxiety in the bedroom. Take time to relax, breathe, and engage in self-care to release stress regularly.

Take a supplement - Nitric oxide plays an important role in erectile function, so taking a supplement can stimulate blood flow and enhance heart health for some people.

Seek out professional help - Consult a doctor for health and hormone level checks. A sex coach can also help you find new ways to have satisfying partnered sex regardless of the strength of your erections.

Words of Wisdom

“Give your partner an orgasm before you even try penetrating your partner, because then you dial down a little bit of the anxiety because you say to yourself ‘my partner has already climaxed one so there’s not going to be that feeling of ‘oh my god, here I am orgasming, and she/he got nothing out of it.’ So, whether it’s oral sex, using a toy, penetrating with your fingers, or whatever, make sure your partner has an orgasm.”

“The two things that should never intersect are intimacy and anxiety. Anxiety is really a mood killer, it’s death to intimacy. Intimacy is about being present in the moment, looking in your partner’s eyes, connecting, relaxing, and enjoying yourself.”

“If you’re going to masturbate, look at it as an event, with as much relish as you would with a partner. Use a lube, relax, and set the tone. Don’t have a feeling like ‘let me get this over with as quickly as possible’ Treat it as a love-making event and enhance that. In some cases, it can help extend your love-making sessions with a partner.”

“The normal, average, healthy male during intercourse lasts just under 6 minutes. The average female without extension foreplay takes about 18 minutes, and that’s if she can climax through penetration at all, because of the location of the clitoris and vagina, a lot of women can not orgasm through vaginal penetration.”

“Take the focus away from that every single time you’re intimate thinking you have to ejaculate. That’s unrealistic. Really get into the mode of feeling the pleasure without the thought of ‘if I don’t have an explosive orgasm it’s wasted.’ There’s nothing wrong with feeling pleasure and being manually or orally stimulated without reaching a climax, it still feels really good.”
